Of course, the EU does not have competences in housing policy. Of course, the issue of housing is renewed only once in the Charter of Fundamental Rights which states that "in order to combat social exclusion and poverty, the EU recognizes the right to social support and housing assistance. "
However, the Union must be the engine of the exchange of good practices in housing and the Intergroup is involved in this dynamic.
For example, members of the Intergroup have been involved in many projects. These include the proposition of the European Charter housing and the call of the 6 december , by Alain Hutchinson, both advocating accessible and decent housing.
The integrated approach is at the heart of discussions by the Intergroup Urban Logement. The environmental quality of buildings, passive buildings, renovation and rehabilitation of neighborhoods compete to energy efficiency in homes, as well as social inclusion. Thus,
Jan Olbrycht and
Jean Marie Beaupuy have participated to the conference organized by the
CAE on April 10, recalling the importance of thinking all aspects of the city and housing in coherence.
